Midwife Assistant Training

Course Description

The Midwife Assistant Training course is designed for experienced doulas and student midwives aspiring to support midwives in various birth settings, including home births and birth centers. This comprehensive program equips students with the essential knowledge and skills required to assist during labor, delivery, and postpartum care. The training emphasizes both technical competencies and interpersonal skills necessary for effective collaboration with midwives and care for families.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

● Understand the role and responsibilities of a midwife assistant.
● Demonstrate proficiency in essential clinical skills such as charting, vital signs
monitoring, and newborn assessments.
● Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to pregnancy and childbirth.
● Implement universal precautions and maintain hygiene standards in a birthing
environment.
● Assist in emergency situations effectively while supporting the midwife.

The course is delivered entirely in-person over a period of 3 days allowing students flexibility in managing their schedules. Each day will include different topics, includes lectures, reading materials, interactive discussions, and practical hands on-skills designed to reinforce learning outcomes. Students will also participate in live case study sessions with experienced instructors who provide personalized feedback.

To successfully complete the course, participants must pass all module exams with a minimum score of 80% and demonstrate clinical competencies through practical evaluations conducted under supervision.

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR MIDWIFE ASSISTANT TRAINING WITH NIKITA

● Current and Active Doula Certification from a recognized Doula Training Organization
● Has held an active doula certification for at least a year with at least 20 documented
births, with at least 5 in a home birth setting OR have an active role as an OB Nurse, OB
Tech, or Clinical Role on Labor and Delivery.
● Student Midwife with an active Preceptorship within the DMV.
● Has completed basic OB Medical Terminology.

The student must be able to complete the following after their in-person training.

Complete an NRP Skills and Certification Program
● Complete Basic CPR Course
● Attend & Assist 3 Births as a Birth Assistant
● Collaborate and Network with Midwives in the DMV.
